How to Avoid Summer Holiday Weight Gain

Mike Jerry

Introduction
Summer holidays make it hard to stay in shape. Naturally, you want to look great in your bathing suits and shorts. You might start a diet in the spring to make sure that your summer clothes look great on you. Unfortunately, summer holidays are the perfect time to put that weight right back on. With so many parties and barbeques, fattening foods abound and the results might be seen in our waistlines. There are ways to avoid summer weight gain on your summer travel trips.

When you think of a summer holiday, you think of your favorite barbeque sauce and homemade brownies. Summer holiday is a great time of the year loaded with barbeques, beach parties, hot dogs, and beers and if we don't keep an eye out on what and how much we're consuming, it can be easy to pack on the weight.

It is easy to indulge when there are drinks, ribs, burgers, chips, and beers staring at you from every corner. To avoid gaining weight this summer all you have to do is keep a few things in mind.

Healthy Summer Holiday Tips

1. The best you can do this summer while indulging on party treats is get active. If you are on the beach, take a swim, play volleyball, or Frisbee. There are a lot of beaches that will allow you to bring your dog with you during certain times. Running or walking on the beach is a great way to stay active. Since you are going to be outdoors, you can take part in lots of outdoor activities like football or basketball. There are lots of ways to have fun while you are moving around.

2. Avoid drinking too much alcohol. There is nothing better than an ice cold beer during the hottest time of the year but limit your consumption throughout the day. Each beer or mixed drink has quite a number of calories and if you aren't watching, you could be doing some major damage to your waistline. Alcohol is also dehydrating which can be dangerous during those hot days. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day which will also curb your appetite.

3. Make sure you start off each meal with a nice big salad or some fresh veggies. The more you fill up on vegetables or salads, the less likely you will fill up on chips, pretzels, and other empty calories.

The most important parts of having a guilt-free summer holiday are to enjoy your time off and have fun! Make sure you keep hydrated and cool throughout those hot days so you can keep the activities up. Summer holiday is probably my favorite time of the year and if you aren't careful, it is easy to pack on the pounds. However, if you decide to have another homemade chocolate chips cookie or another glass of spiked punch, know that you deserve it and that summer only comes around once a year.
